I’m Matt Craig, a lifetime New Yorker born in Queens and living in Long Island. I’ve spent my whole life listening to some of the greatest radio stations of all time in America’s #1 market. Now here’s my story…

“Why so many airchecks Matt?”

Funny you should ask…My radio ah-ha moment came in 1976, when I heard WNYT for the first time. It was the radio station of The New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury and was heard on what was then Cablevision Channel Q as the background music. It seemed like a cool thing to do, so I decided to call the station. I spoke to both the General Manager and Chief Engineer that day and the rest is history.
I worked at WNYT for the next 3 years, and got an internship at WGLI-AM in Babylon, NY. I also worked at WNYG-AM doing some fill ins for free. Why free? Because I took a trade out for some restaurant coupons I never used!
In 2004 I got back on the air at WEBE-FM 108 in Bridgeport, CT as the fill-in host for Studio 108 on Saturday nights. I was offered the show on a regular basis, but driving from Long Island to Bridgeport was a minimum 2 hour trip, sometimes more depending on traffic and weather, so I had to turn it down. I loved doing that show!
So, in 2020, I started my own internet radio show called “New York’s Best Rock” which is now on 31 stations around the world. Click on it’s page from the menu and find out more!

From the TOP Jones Beach Tower!

I’m also a writer. I did a column for www.grubstreet.ca for about 10 years, and while that site is still up, there haven’t been any new entries for a few years now. So I needed an outlet for my writing, and I restarted a blog I set up many years ago. So if you want to be entertained in 3 minutes or less, head over to “Life As I See It” at Blogspot. Just click on the RED titles above to visit them.
Thanks for stopping by Big Apple Airchecks! I hope you're able to find some great radio you love. - Matt

Shelly Seinberg

May 5, 1929 - March 26, 2020

Here are a couple of pictures of my father, Shelly Seinberg who passed away March 26, 2020. He was born May 5, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY.

He was a graduate of Erasmus High School, and was best friends with George Morgenstern almost his entire life. He was stationed in California during the Korean War for 18 months, and was involved in a car accident that required months of recuperation due to an injury to his left arm. He then returned to New York.

His father Martin was an optometrist, and his mother Dorothy was a school teacher. Dad became an optician and worked mostly in retail sales and management until his retirement. He lived in upstate New York for over 30 years, most recently in Syracuse. He moved in with us in June 2019.

Domino

This is Domino. I got her when she was about 6 weeks old in 1986. She made herself right at home when my roommate and I brought her home from the North Shore Animal League. Domino was very good natured, and loved to be held and cuddled. She was a purring machine!

We lost Domino on December 12, 2002 to cancer and we miss her very much. May she forever roll in catnip, watch TV and know we are always thinking about her.

Daphne

This is Daphne. We got her 3 days after we lost Domino from The Westbury Animal Hospital. It took her about 6 months to settle down and become a real member of the family, but once that happened, she was a true loving, purring kitty! She loved to snuggle with me wherever I was watching TV, and she slept with us at night.

We lost her in July 2015, and she is buried in our backyard where we can always look out the back window and see her memorial stone. One day we will all be reunited at The Rainbow Bridge.

It was two weeks after that we adopted Daisy and Scarlett, and a year later after volunteering at Last Hope Animal Shelter, I brought home Dakota as a surprise to everyone else. She is a fun little girl that just loves to curl up on a warm lap and sleep.
